Engineering students to study social sciences, Indian Constitution as part of revised curriculum: Report
Engineering students in India will now have to study social sciences including management, environmental sciences, Indian culture and Constitution according to a model curriculum by the All India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE).

The move does not apply to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technoligy (IITs), reported Hindustan Times.

The revision to the curriculum has been approved by the human resource and development (HRD) ministry, according to official sources quoted by Hindustan Times in its report.

“Right now some institutes offer humanities and other similar courses but it is not mandatory. Universities can decide whether they want to offer English literature, psychology, political science or economics but they have to comply with it. Engineering students need to follow a holistic approach and the programmes will have an inter-disciplinary approach. This will help in their overall growth and development,” the report quoted an AICTE official as saying.

According to the new changes which will come into force from the next academic session, students will have to mandatorily earn 12 credits from 150-160 credits in humanities and social sciences.
