Leaders of 'Bhoo Samrakshana Samithi' (Land Protection Council), has demanded that the Kerala government enact laws to stop the 'land mafia' from exploiting the lands of dalits and adivasi's in Ernakulam district.

KOCHI: Leaders of 'Bhoo Samrakshana Samithi' (Land Protection Council), on Saturday demanded that the Kerala government enact laws to stop the 'land mafia' from exploiting the lands of dalits and adivasi's in Ernakulam district.

Speaking to reporters here, M Geethanandan, general secretary, Rashtriya Mahasabha and E P Kumaradas, convenor, Adijanamahasabha, said weaker sections were being evicted in the name of development on the one-side, while on the other, the encroachment of real estate lobbies was also indirectly resulting in eviction of these people from their lands.

Geethanandan also demanded an enquiry into the dealings on Dalit and Adivasi lands in the last five years and that charges be framed against people who have illegally exploited the lands of the weaker sections.

The Samithi would organise agitations throughout Kerala in this connection soon, he said.
