Employees State Insurance Corporation spend on sops for workers inadequate: CAG
NEW DELHI: Employees State Insurance Corporation ( ESIC), which has been sitting on a cash surplus of over Rs 19,000 crore, is not spending enough on providing services such as medical and cash benefits to the workers of organised sectors, the Comptroller and Auditor General report has said.

The CAG report for the year ended March 2013 also highlighted that sub-standard medicines are being provided by ESIC to its members and there’s a shortage of around 40% doctors in its hospitals and dispensaries. ESIC has 1.86 crore workers as its members who contribute to the insurance scheme.
