Embarrassing moment from Amarinder's past

Ahead of Punjab polls, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to embarrass each other. The latest salvo has been fired by Akalis who have fished out an advertisement dating back to 1982 when Captain Amarinder Singh had ‘welcomed’ the then PM Indira Gandhi to Punjab when she came to lay the foundation stone for SYL canal at Kapoori ( Patiala). The 34-year-old ad has been splashed all across regional dailies in Punjab.




Whose headache?
Kapil Sibal and Dr Subramanian Swamy were seen sparring in court recently on the issue of black money. “So, are you for black money or against black money?” Swamy asked Sibal within the earshot of journalists. Sibal, the astute lawyer that he is, smartly sidestepped the issue and said: “That’s your headache now, not mine.”



Vajpayee in Uttarakhand
It is well known that BJP pushes its old top brass into the background. Hence, it came as a surprise to many when Amit Shah mentioned Vajpayee at a rally in Almora. The context was formation of Uttarakhand, which was done during Vajpayee’s PMship. Shah said an ailing Vajpayee is the one most pained by the lack of development in the hill state.



Trump connect
India has immediately jumped to connect with the incoming Trump presidency through political and diplomatic channels. Recently, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar was in Washington and met none other than vice-president-elect Mike Pence and other functionaries to get a sense of the incoming administration’s approach towards India. The exercise would enable India to take forward US ties with US.
