The Basavanagudi constituency is a fine example of how caste, status and conventional political dynamics play out. The area has a big chunk of upper caste and educated voters. Many belong to the business background. BJP’s sitting MLA Ravi Subramanya AL has his fair share of supporters.
Though there are no electricity, water and sanitary connection issues here, there seems to be a garbage management crisis building up.
Uncontrollable commercial activities and lack of footpaths are other grey areas.
Most residents Bangalore Mirror spoke to said there was a dearth of footpaths. Srinavasa Murthy, a resident of Srinagar, said, “Do you see one footpath in a good condition anywhere on this Girininagar 50 ft Road? All footpaths are encroached upon. Vehicles are parked on the street,” he said. A resident of Girinagar told BM, garbage disposal is a problem.
“Garbage is not being disposed regularly and is left lying on the road,” he said.

Although the Congress is not the immediate choice of many voters in the area, the JD(S) has proved to be a real threat due to its growing popularity among the poor and labour class population in the area.
Ravi Subramanya AL, the sitting MLA from BJP, may face stiff competition from Congress candidate Boregowda M . JD(S) has also thrown its hat in the ring by fielding K Bagegowda. JD(S) will also try to capitalise on the success of the Namma Appaji Canteen in the area.
