Electronic weighing machines would soon be installed in all 23,600 PDS (Public Distribution System) across Tamil Nadu before the end of this fiscal.

TIRUCHIRAPALLI: Electronic weighing machines would soon be installed in all 23,600 PDS (Public Distribution System) across Tamil Nadu before the end of this fiscal to enable accurate weighing of items sold, thereby helping avoid complaints from the public of irregularities, according to minister for cooperative and food supply, Ko Si Mani.

Food items being supplied to the PDS shops would also be checked before being issued to the public, he told reporters

To a query, he said efforts were on to rehabilitate all sick primary agricultural coopearitive societies. About 1,100 sick societies would be given Rs 20 lakh as soft loan for their revival. The amount would be disbursed through the respective district cooperative central banks at just five per cent interest rate, he said.

Cooperative societies in tamil nadu had issued crop loans worth Rs 1,100 crore to about 5.26 lakh farmers till February 14. This was Rs 132 crore more than the advances made in the same period last year, he said.
