Elections 2014 Results: UPA alliance partners have been punished by people, says Venkaiah Naidu

NEW DELHI: The outcome of the Lok Sabha elections has proved that UPA alliance partners have been punished by people, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said.

"Whoever is part of UPA, they all have been punished. SP, BSP, DMK, NCP and Farooq Abdullah's party have been punished... Whoever has identified itself with UPA and whoever was part of the dubious regime of the UPA, they all have been punished," he told reporters.

Asked about the performance of the BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu, Naidu underscored that he would have been happy if his party secured more seats, but said it could not perform better due to lack of grass-root level infrastructure.

"Mere wave alone cannot make you to win elections comfortably. Wave was there. Even we have got good vote share in Tamil Nadu, Odisha and West Bengal, historically we have increased our strength. But, we could not perform as per our expectation because of lack of grass-root level infrastructure," he added.

Questioned whether there would be adequate representation of BJP MPs elected from Telangana and Seemandhra in the new union cabinet, Naidu, who was the former BJP chief, stated that the Prime Minister would take a call on the issue.

"That is the responsibility of the Prime Minister. He will decide. Depending on the representation people have given, there will be representation also. Who will be in the cabinet would be the prerogative of the Prime Minister. Once he takes charge, he will decide," he said.
