It was moment of happiness for President Pranab Mukherjee when his son Abhijit Mukherjee today retained Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.

NEW DELHI: It was a moment of happiness for President Pranab Mukherjee when his son Abhijit Mukherjee today retained Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.

Mukherjee was watching the election results on television set, officials said today.

The President did not keep any official engagements for today in view of the election results.

Abhijit was the among the four Congress candidates who won from West Bengal where most of the 42 seats were swept by Trinamool Congress.

Jangipur had returned Mukherjee senior twice in 2004 and 2009 before he was elected as President. Abhijit had for the first time contested from this seat in 2012 and won it by a slender margin of 2,536.

The President will be receiving election results officially from the Election Commission after which BJP-led NDA will stake claim to form government.
