Elections 2014: Milkha Singh congratulates Narendra Modi on emphatic win
CHANDIGARH: Legendary athlete Milkha Singh today congratulated Narendra Modi for his party's spectacular show in the Lok Sabha polls and hoped that the country's sports will turn over a new leaf under his leadership.

"I congratulate Modi for the landslide win. Entire country was with him right from the beginning and people have rightly voted him as next Prime Minister," the 84-year-old former sprinter said here.

He said there are great expectations tethered to Modi as he has risen from a humble background. "The country is facing huge problems like corruption which common people feel will be eliminated with a man like Modi at the helm," he said.

Milkha, who represented the country in three Olympics and won four gold medals in the Asian Games in 1958 and 1962, hoped that the BJP led NDA government will work towards bettering country's sports.

"I have great hopes that the NDA government will take keen interest and improve our sports. I hope they will frame policies which will help India bring Olympic medals," he said. He also added that the next Sports Minister of the country should be somebody with knowledge of sports. "He should have full knowledge about sports and it can be of immense help in lifting the standard of sports in the country," Singh said.
