Elections 2014: Former HP CM Shanta Kumar wins Kangra; BJP's Virender Kashyap retains Shimla seat

Kumar, a two-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, defeated Chander Kumar by 1,70,072 votes to recored his fourth win from the constituency.

NEW DELHI: Former Himachal Chief Minister Shanta Kumar of BJP today defeated his nearest rival Chander Kumar of Congress by more than 1,70,000 lakh votes from Kangra constituency.

Kumar, a two-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, defeated Chander Kumar by 1,70,072 votes to recored his fourth win from the constituency.

He polled 4,56,163 votes in comparison to Chander Kumar's 2,86,091 votes.

Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Rajan Sushant, who won in 2009 on a BJP ticket but resigned from the seat this January, came third after securing 24,430 votes.

In Shimla (SC) also, BJP's Virender Kashyap retained the seat by defeating Congress' Mohan Lal Brakta with a margin of 84,187 votes. This is his second consecutive victory from the constituency.
