CHANDIGARH: The experiment of the ruling Congress in Haryana to field MLAs in a three parliamentary seats in the state backfired.

To boost their poll prospects in the Lok Sabha polls, the party had fielded its Nalwa MLA and former minister Sampat Singh from Hisar to take on Haryana Janhit Congress chief and sitting MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, besides other candidates who had entered the fray from that parliamentary constituency.

However, Sampat lost badly finishing at the third spot. As Congress's sitting MP from Sonepat Jitender Malik opted out of the contest, the party fielded his younger brother Jagbir Malik as candidate from the seat.

Jagbir is Congress MLA from Gohana and was a first-time contestant for Lok Sabha, but he too failed to impress, losing to BJP's Ramesh Chander.

Rao Dharam Pal Singh Yadav, Congress's sitting MLA from Badshahpur, had entered the fray from Gurgaon to take on turncoat and former Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who switched over to BJP from Congress.

However, the Badshahpur legislator failed to taste electoral success and ended up at the third spot.
