Sitting Lok Sabha member C L Ruala of Congress was re-elected to the lone Mizoram Lok Sabha seat and will represent the state for two consecutive terms.

AIZAWL: Sitting Lok Sabha member C L Ruala of the ruling Congress was re-elected to the lone Mizoram Lok Sabha seat and will represent the North Eastern state for two consecutive terms.

Ruala defeated his nearest rival Robert Romawia Royte of the United Democratic Front ( UDF), the eight party opposition alliance by a margin of 11,361 votes in a triangular contest.

He contested the elections held on April 11 against two opponents - Robert Romawia Royte, an independent candidate sponsored by the eight-party United Democratic Alliance (UDF) and Michael Lalmanzuala of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Ruala won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections by defeating his nearest rival Dr H Lallungmuana, an independent candidate sponsored by the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) by a margin of 1,08,955 votes, the highest ever in the electoral history of the state.
