NEW DELHI: The 16th Lok Sabha will be a little older than the earlier one, with 253 of the 543 elected members being above the age of 55. BJP patriarch L.K. Advani would be the eldest member of the lower house at 86 years.

In the 15th Lok Sabha, 43 percent of members were over the age of 55. According to legislative think tank PRS, this is the first time so many members over 55 have been elected to the Lok Sabha. Interestingly, the Lok Sabha has been getting older after every election since independence. Only 71 members (13 percent) elected to the Lok Sabha this time are under the age of 40.
