Election fallout: Khanduri resigns as Uttarakhand CM

BJP to replace Uttarakhand CM Khanduri after party's rout in LS polls.

NEW DELHI: B C Khanduri has resigned as the chief minister of Uttarakhand. BJP president Rajnath Singh said Khanduri's resignation had been accepted by the party.

The BJP high command had decided to replace Khanduri after the party's rout in the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

The decision was reportedly taken at a meeting of the party leaders at the residence of senior leader L K Advani, which was also attended by party president Rajnath Singh.

The names of state minister for tourism and parliamentary affairs Prakash Pant and health minister Ramesh Pokhriyal are doing the rounds as possible front-runners to replace Khanduri.

Dissident leader B S Koshiyari, who has been gunning for Khanduri's removal, had resigned from Rajya Sabha membership on Wednesday, sending ripples in the party. He, however, took the resignation back on Friday following a party directive.
