The Election Commission has decided to hold biennial elections to six seats in the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu falling vacant in July.

CHENNAI: The Election Commission has decided to hold biennial elections to six seats in the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu falling vacant in July.

The notification would be issued on June 10 and the date of poll, if necessary, would be on June 27, an EC release said.

The term of A Elavarasan, V Maitreyan (both AIADMK), Kanimozhi, Tiruchi N Siva (both DMK), B S Gnanadesikan (Cong), and D Raja (CPI) will expire by July 27.

The last date of nominations would be June 17, scrutiny would be done on June 18 and the last date for withdrawal would be June 20, it said.

Counting of votes would be done on the polling day itself at 5 PM, it said, adding the process has to be completed by June 29.
