Election Commission seeks explanation from Amit Shah over WB BJP leader's remarks
NEW DELHI: Election Commission of India (EC) has asked BJP president Amit Shah for an explanation regarding a statement made by a West Bengal party leader Joy Banerjee.

The EC has given the BJP chief time till September 25 to explain the party’s position on Banerjee’s boastful statement that his "party has control over the Election Commission." The EC took exception to the statement and said that it amounted to denigrating the integrity of the Commission as it could distort public perception about its neutrality, autonomy and independence.

The EC has also directed DG (Investigations) of Income Tax departments of Delhi and Bihar to probe the movement of illegal money as highlighted by a news channel.
