Election Commission of India nominates gymnast Dipa Karmakar as 'Icon of Tripura'
Dipa Karmakar was the first Indian woman gymnast who won bronze medal in artistic gymnastics in 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

She would help the commission to create awareness among the voters about the participation in election and to enroll their names in the voter's list and also cast more votes during elections, according to official sources here today.
"Election Commission nominates celebrities as state and national icon to encourage people to enroll their names in the voters' list and cast more votes during elections and Dipa Karmakar was appointed as the state icon," Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, Ashutosh Jindal told reporters.
Karmakar was the first Indian woman gymnast of the country who won bronze medal in artistic gymnastics in 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
She also secured the award of overall individual championship between 2010-2014 in the country.
