Election Commission defers Rajarajeshwari Nagar poll to May 28
Of the 225 seats in lower House, including one nominated, election in the Jayanagar seat in south Bangalore has been put off owing to the death of BJP candidate B.N. Vijaya Kumar on May 4.
The polling in RR Nagar has been re-scheduled for May 28 while the counting and results will be done and announced on May 31.
A day after 9,746 voter ID cards were seized from a flat in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency in Karnataka, the BJP had accused the Congress of hatching a conspiracy to "derail" free and fare polls.
BJP also demanded that polling in Rajarajeshwari should be cancelled.
Reacting to all the developments of the past few days, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka said,this move( deferring the RR Nagar poll to May 28) was required to instill confidence in people to vote without fear.
The voting in 223 assembly constituencies of the state will be held on tomorrow and votes will be counted on May 15.
