Election Commission appoints officers for Presidential polls

Election Commission has appointed assistant returning officers for the Presidential polls to be held on July 19.

AIZAWL: Election Commission of India appointed Ngurthanzuala and Vanlalnghenga, secretary and additional secretary respectively of the Mizoram Assembly as assistant returning officers for the Presidential polls to be held on July 19.

An official statement said that two officials in all the states and union territories were appointed as assistant returning officers by the Election Commission.

Mizoram assembly has 40 members out of which 32 legislators belonged to the ruling Congress party.

The main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) has three MLAs and its partner Mara Democratic Front has one legislator while both the Mizoram People's Conference and the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) have two legislators each.

Mizoram, also has two members of parliament - one each for Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The Lok Sabha member C. L. Ruala is a Congressman while the Rajya Sabha MP Lalhming LIana belonged to the opposition MNF.
