While there are 8 vacancies due to retirement of sitting members in Bihar legislative council, there are 11 vacancies created in UP legislative council.

New Delhi: The Election Commission has decided to hold elections on March 23 to fill 19 vacancies created in state legislative councils in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from the Graduates and Teachers constituencies.

The elections are being held as the term of 19 members expires on May 6, 2014.

While there are 8 vacancies due to retirement of sitting members in Bihar legislative council, including four in the teachers' constituency, there are 11 vacancies created in Uttar Pradesh legislative council, including 6 in the teachers' constituency.

As per the schedule of elections, the notification for the poll will be issued on February 26 and the last date of filing of nominations is March 5.

After scrutiny the next day, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is March 8 and polling will be held between 8 AM and 4 PM on March 23. The counting will take place on March 26 at 8 AM.

The model code of conduct as applicable to elections to graduates' & teachers' Constituencies will come into force with immediate effect in the district(s) within which the constituencies are comprised.
