NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate will appeal against the order of the special CBI court granting bail to Ratul Puri in the VVIP chopper scandal case.

The agency will soon file an appeal in the Delhi HC seeking quashing of the order of the lower court, people with direct knowledge of the matter told ET. A special CBI court, earlier this week, had granted bail to Puri, who stands charge-sheeted by the ED for his alleged involvement in the AgustaWestland chopper deal.

Opposing Puri’s bail, the agency had told the special court that on receipt of fresh information gathered from its probe, the Indian government has shot off letters rogatories to different countries on November 21. ED had told the court that “numerous documents” pertaining to the chopper case were burnt by Puri and “bags of documents were shifted by him to thwart the investigation”. ED had further alleged that Puri influenced and pressurized two witnesses who turned hostile from their statements recorded with the agency.

The agency also said that Puri influenced accused-turned-approver Rajiv Saxena forcing the latter to not disclose the alleged tainted money received by Puri.
