ED reminds Tamil Nadu DGP to fast-track Lalit Modi probe
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing charges of money laundering against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, has shot off fresh letter to director general of police (DGP) Tamil Nadu, asking to fast-track and complete the CID’s probe in a 2010 case that is the basis of ED’s money laundering case against the beleaguered businessman.

ET on March 28 was the first to report on ED chief Karnal Singh’s letter to state administration, asking to step up the probe. This is the second reminder by the agency after the state police failed to complete the probe even after four months. In March, ED had secured an extradition order against Modi from a Mumbai court in the money laundering case.

ED officials said they don’t want to take chance against Modi and will send the extradition request to the Ministry of External Affairs only after the state police files a chargesheet in a bid to present a water-tight case against Moid before the UK authorities. It may be recalled that the Chennai police registered the lone criminal case against Modi in October 2010 on the complaint of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
