ED top official denies filing of case against Delhi's deputy CM Manish Sisodia

A top official of the Enforcement Directorate has confirmed to ANI that no case has been registered against Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the case pertaining to the alleged irregularities in the excise policy.

This comes after news agency ANI's earlier report said that a case under PMLA has been registered against Sisodia and others. Additional Director Enforcement Directorate Sonia Narang had on record confirmed it to ANI.

Sisodia is the prime accused in the alleged scam pertaining to the excise policy. The CBI, on August 19, had conducted raids on Sisodia's residence.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday said that look out circulars (LOC) have been issued against eight private individuals and entities booked by the agency in its probe into the Delhi government's liquor policy. These exclude Manoj Rai, a co-accused in the case. The agency was silent on whether an LOC has been issued, so far, against Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, the prime accused in the case.

The probe against Sisodia has led to a bitter war of words between AAP and the BJP. Sisodia had claimed that he got an offer from the BJP to join the party and all the cases with the probe agency would be closed against him. He tweeted the message and said that "he would rather be beheaded than join the BJP". BJP denied any such offer.

The scheme came under the scanner after Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena last month recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the implementation of Delhi's Excise Policy 2021-22.

He also suspended 11 excise officials in the matter.

Sisodia too demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the policy.

The CBI inquiry was recommended on the findings of the Delhi chief secretary's report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009 and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials said.
