ED registers case against Assam agri dept for alleged Rs 30,000 crore scam

The complaints were regarding the use of the Centre’s funds under Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojana and Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India.

GUWAHATI: Enforcement directorate (ED) has registered a case against Assam agriculture department for alleged irregularities to the tune of Rs 3000 Crore.

A senior official in the ED told ET, “Case was filled in the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). However considering the fact that huge amount is involved the ED headquarters have asked the local unit here to investigate the case.”

The CID had registered a case against agriculture department officials following an FIR by the NGO. The complaints were regarding the use of the Centre’s funds under Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojana and Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India.

The ED official added that the case number is ERIC 02/2015. Earlier the NGO, Assam Public Works has submitted memorandum to Prime minister, Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture minister, Radha Mohan Singh seeking probe in the state agriculture department.

Opposition parties including BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) are looking to use this to attack the ruling congress government in the state. Already couple of senior congress leaders is interrogated in connection with multi crore Shardha chit fund scam.
