ED notice to wife as I didn’t yield to pressure to topple MVA govt: Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday accussed the Union government of trying to destabilise the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, saying that this was the reason why opposition leaders were getting investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other central investigative agencies. Raut’s Varsha Raut has been told to to appear before the ED on December 29. She has been summoned in connection with the PMC Bank fraud case. The agency is investigating financial transactions between Varsha and Pravin Raut, who has been arrested by the ED in the PMC Bank case. The agency had asked Varsha more than a month ago to be available for questioning.

The Shiv Sena MP, however, slammed the ED action, saying the BJP government in the centre was using agencies to target its political rivals. “The police, ED and CBI are being used to finish off political rivals if they can’t be tackled politically. We are not afraid of such action by the ED,” said Raut while addressing a press conference.

“In the last one year, Sharad Pawar, Praful Patel and Pratap Sarnaik have been served notice. We are not afraid of the ED as none of us have done anything wrong,”said the Sena MP, adding that he had been approached several times by BJP leaders to bring down the MVA government, but he did not yield to the pressure and that is why he is being targeted.
