ED asks UP for details on Amar Singh’s fraud case

The UP government has submitted to the Enforcement Directorate details of the case involving Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, following its request.

LUCKNOW: The UP government has submitted to the Enforcement Directorate details of the case involving Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, following its request.

Cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said that the state governments��� economic offences wing, probing the matter, has sent details of the case to the ED and serious fraud���s investigation office, which comes under the Union corporate affairs ministry . The EOW has also asked Sebi to probe alleged violation of legal norms by the pocket companies of Amar Singh and manipulation in the value of their shares before amalgamation.

The Mayawati government has also sent all details of the case to the revenue department, which oversees the income-tax and excise directorate . The cases were registered on October 15 by the Kanpur police Mr Shivakant Tripathi lodging an FIR against Mr Amar Singh under the Money Laundering Act and Prevention of Corruption Act.

The FIR claimed that Mr Amar Singh and his associates had indulged in financial fraud by merging several of his pocket companies to convert white money into black and also used his public office to favour his companies at the cost of the state exchequer. The FIR also mentions cine star Amitabh Bachchan���s name.

The state government first transferred the case to the Kolkata police as the companies under question were registered in that city but later asked its EOW department to investigate.
