EC to take call on plea against Goa BJP MLA: Governor

Goa Governor B V Wanchoo told media persons today that the petition submitted to him has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

PANAJI: The Election Commission will take a decision on a petition seeking disqualification of Goa BJP legislator Glen Ticlo for allegedly holding dual citizenship.

Goa Governor B V Wanchoo told media persons today that the petition submitted to him has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

"I have already sent the complaint to ECI as is the normal practice," he said when asked about the issue.

It is now for the ECI to take call on it, the Governor said.

Melwyn Fernandes, a local, had complained to the Governor about Ticlo's dual citizenship. According to him, the Indian national had taken Portuguese citizenship in 2009.

Under the Constitution, persons with dual citizenship are barred from contesting elections.
