The EC plans to hold discussions with the poll machinery across states as well as political parties- ahead of the next round of polls, to ensure social distancing and masking norms are strictly followed this time.
The countdown to the next round of assembly elections is set to begin with the Election Commission of India calling a meeting of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all poll-bound states on Wednesday.

The EC is mandated to hold elections on time to ensure a new assembly is in place in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Punjab by March 15, March 19, March 23 and March 27, 2022 respectively. In Uttar Pradesh, 403 constituencies must vote for a new assembly to be installed by May 14, 2022.

Covid-19 will once again be a key concern in the conduct of the polls, more so after the experience in the previously-held assembly elections, held during the second Covid wave.
