EC should take action against erring officers: Naqvi

Alleging that hoardings, posters of UP CM were not removed, BJP asked EC to take action against officers concerned.

LUCKNOW: Alleging that hoardings and posters of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati were not removed despite enforcement of model code of conduct in the state, the BJP today asked the Election Commission to take action against officers concerned.

"Mammoth hoardings and life size posters of BSP supremo Mayawati have been installed in all the districts of the state, on government expenditure," BJP National Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here.

He alleged that despite the model code of conduct in force, these hoardings and posters have not been removed at a number of places in the state.

"We demand from the EC that a FIR should be lodged against officers responsible for not removing the hoardings and an action should taken against them," he said.

On being asked about statues of Mayawati, he said that even statues of BSP's election symbol were erected at a number of places and the EC should take some decision on this.

"During NDA regime the EC directed to remove signages from highways under the scheme launched by the then government and the party complied with it," he said.
