A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to North Bengal's Alipurduar, state minister Udayan Guha stoked a row by saying that the PM who was selling "hot tea till now is selling hot Sindoor". Guha said: "Some used to do tea business, now they are doing Sindoor business. Earlier, he used to sell hot tea; now hot Sindoor is flowing through his blood. To sell such hot Sindoor, he is coming to Alipurduar. Don't insert religious seed and divisive politics. We don't do such business. We speak about communal harmony".

BJP has strongly condemned the attack, calling it an insult on the armed forces. In a post on X, Trinamool Congress posted, "Since the migratory birds are making their seasonal visit to Bengal, why not answer one simple question: Why is the Centre still withholding Bengal's rightful dues amounting to ₹1.7 lakh crore?"
