Earlier govt launched schemes to publicise only one family: Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday targeted the Gandhi family by claiming that earlier government schemes were introduced not to help the people but to ‘publicise just one family’.

Modi was speaking at Shirdi on Friday where he had come to observe the death centenary of Sai Baba in Shirdi and later addressed a rally where he interacted with PMJAY beneficiaries when he made those comments.

“Earlier too efforts were made but their efforts was only to publicise one family, they were just catering to a vote bank. They did not think about getting a electricity connection, a toilet for your home, a gas connection or to ensure that a good quality home is built.” said Modi, without naming the Gandhi family.


“They only thought about their political benefits before executing a project. While we are thinking of actually helping people,” he added.

Modi said that the country had made remarkable progress under his government and gave the example of how his government had been able to build 1.25 crore houses in four years, while the Congress government managed to build only 25 lakh houses during its term.

“If the same government (Congress) would have been in power then it would have taken them 20 more years to build as many houses as we have built. Which means the poor would have to wait for 20 more years to live in a good house,” Modi said.

Giving a poll pitch, the Prime Minister said that the government has been able to execute projects at a faster rate due to its ‘intent’. “We have the same employees, same infrastructure, what's different is the intent,”he said.

He also promised that the state would get the Centre’s help to counter the drought in Marathwada and North Maharashtra regions.
