Farming, fisheries top priority for our govt: PM Modi in Assam
Prime minister Narendra Modi said that earlier governments have given step motherly treatment to the region in the North bank of Brahmaputra in Assam .

Addressing a rally in Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district, Modi said that earlier governments had ensured that there is long distance between the New Delhi and Dispur. “We have brought New Delhi to peoples door steps and several ministers have visited Northeast India every fortnightly.”

Assam is going to assembly polls in April this year. Modi said, “Last time (2016) election dates were announced on March 4, this time also dates are expected to be announced in the first week of March. However, this is the work of the Election commission of India. Till the announcement of election, I will visit Assam, West Bengal, Puducherry and Kerala as much as I can.”

Modi said, “The North Bank of River Brahmaputra in Assam was given step motherly treatment by earlier governments. With the coming of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal development has been expedited.”

He said that LPG coverage has increased tremendously. “Earlier in India only 50 to 55 families had LPG connection out of 100 families. In Assam only 40 families had LPG connection out of 100. After 2014 things have changed with Ujjawala Yojana providing free LPG connection. In this year’s budget provision is made to provide another one crore free LPG connections to the poor people.”

Asserting the need to continue with double engine of Centre and state government to expedite development in Assam, he said, “Assam government is moving ahead and will soon implement the national education policy whereby the local people will be able to learn in their mother tongue.”
