E-mail threat to PM's life: 3 arrested

Three persons have been taken into custody here in connection with an e-mail threatening that an attempt on the life of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be made during his Kerala visit from November one.

KOCHI: Three persons have been taken into custody here in connection with an e-mail threatening that an attempt on the life of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be made during his Kerala visit from November one.

Top police officers were questioning them, police sources said adding two of those being questioned were from Kodungalloor in Thrissur district, they said.

The owner of the Internet cafe, from where the mail was sent, was among those being questioned.

E-mails were sent to state DGP and Home secretary.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the media that the government had taken a serious note of the matter though there was no room for any panic.

Top police officials had been asked to inquire into the matter, he said.

The Prime Minister will be visiting Kerala from November one to attend a series of programmes, including inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations of the formation of the state.

He is also expected to lay the foundation stone of a new terminal at the International airport at Thiruvananthapuram.
