Dynasty's child: BJP also believes it's all in the family
Party president Rajnath Singh’s son appointed youth wing chief in UP.
NEW DELHI: Less than a day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi appointed her son Rahul Gandhi as a party general secretary, her counterpart in the BJP, Rajnath Singh too expressed his commitment to dynastic politics by getting his son, Pankaj Singh, crowned as the chief of the party’s youth wing in Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement regarding the appointment of Pankaj Singh as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in UP was made late on Monday night in Lucknow by the state BJP chief Ramapati Ram Tripathi.
In another move that is certain to raise eyebrows in BJP circles, Mahendra Singh, a political non-entity, has been made a UP general secretary. He happens to be the brother-in-law of Rajnath Singh’s PA, KP Singh.
The decision is certain to blunt the BJP’s campaign against the Congress for its adherence to dynastic politics. The issue has been one of the teasing weapons in the BJP’s arsenal against the Gandhi family.
Hours after Rahul Gandhi was designated as a Congress general secretary and a member of the CWC, former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu had flayed the decision. "The Congress has always been in the forefront in fostering dynastic politics," he asserted, adding, "We have seen what happened with PV Narasimha Rao and Sitaram Kesri."
