Dutt nearing release as lawyer hands over SC order

Sanjay Dutt's lawyer Satish Maneshinde has handed over the SC order to the TADA court to obtain final go ahead for the actor's release.

MUMBAI: The lawyers of actor Sanjay Dutt, presently lodged in Yeravada jail, arrived at the special TADA court on Wednesday with the order of the Supreme Court granting him interim bail.

Dutt's lawyer Satish Maneshinde arrived with the order here and is expected to complete the legal formalities before obtaining the actor's release.

The Supreme Court had on Monday granted Dutt, sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of arms, and five others interim bail until they received the copy of the judgement from the TADA court.

Dutt was convicted under the Arms Act by the special TADA court that conducted the trial in the 1993 serial blasts case for illegal possession of an AK-56 assault rifle and a pistol.

After receiving the order from the TADA court, Dutt's lawyers are expected to go to the jail near Pune and serve the copy there after which the actor will be released.

As per the Supreme Court's order, Dutt, who has spent three weeks in jail, will have to surrender himself once he receives the copy of the judgement and seek regular bail.
