DUSU Elections 2026: Delhi University votes today; counting on Sept 19, check candidates, security measures

Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections for the 2026–27 academic year is underway today, September 18, 2026, across member colleges. Over 1.51 lakh eligible students are casting their ballots to select representatives for the four central panel posts.

The election is taking place amid heightened scrutiny surrounding campus security and compliance with campaign regulations. The Delhi High Court has questioned both Delhi University and the Delhi Police regarding reports of violence, vandalism, and the presence of outsiders during the campaign period. The court warned that further action could impact the counting process or the declaration of results if authorities fail to address these concerns.

Polling timings and structure

To accommodate different schedules, Delhi University has organized voting into two distinct sessions:

• Morning Shift: 8:30 am to 1:00 pm (for morning and day-class students)
• Evening Shift: 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm (for evening-class students)

A total of 20 candidates are competing for the central panel positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. Following the conclusion of polling, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be sealed and transported to the designated central counting facility.

Key contenders and panels

Major student organizations including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), and the AISA-SFI alliance have fielded full panels, alongside candidates from the AAP student wing and several independents.

Independents: Ejaj Mansuri, Samarth Beniwal, Sameer Kumar, Aranya Singh Rathore, Deepanshu Shokeen, and Vishesh Yadav

Core issues and campaign projections

Key campaign issues have centered around student safety, campus infrastructure, academic resources, social justice, and affordable housing. Student accommodation became a central focus following the tragic building collapse in Satya Niketan, which claimed seven lives, including five students.

Expressing strong confidence ahead of the outcome, ABVP national general secretary Virendra Singh Solanki stated that the organization was expecting a "4-0 result" across all four central panel posts. This projection reflects organizational expectations, while the definitive outcome will depend on the ballots cast and counted.

Counting schedule and security measures

According to the official schedule, vote counting will begin at 8:00 am on September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus. Access to the venue will be regulated through Gate No. 2.

All member colleges, departments, and institutes have been instructed to transfer EVMs to the central venue immediately after polling ends. To ensure smooth operations, traffic restrictions have been implemented on key North Campus corridors, including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road, and University Road. The final election results will determine the new four-member student leadership for the 2026–27 term.
