Dry run carried out before Bangalore blasts

BANGALORE: A day before the serial blasts in the city, the perpetrators of the explosions appeared to have carried out a dry run by triggering a similar blast in Channapatna, about 35 km from here.

Senior police officials, including DGP R Srikumar, last night visited Channapatna in Ramanagara District where the blast had taken place on July 24 near a roadside drainage.

"Remnants from the spot have been taken. It was similar to the blasts that took place in Bangalore on Friday. Ammonium nitrate was used there (Channapatna)", a senior police official said.

The blast did not cause any damage, police sources said today adding that was why the incident went largely unnoticed.

The blast was ignored because it was thought to be of no consequence and believed to be part of quarrying or some other harmless purpose, they said.
