Don’t put PM’s photo on government owned websites: EC
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has ordered immediate removal of hotographs of the Prime Minister and Union ministers from all government websites, terming it a violation of the model code of conduct.

The EC has also sought to know through a communication to Cabinet Secretary as to why the photographs were not removed when the model code of conduct came into effect from January 4, 2017.

The EC had written to the cabinet secretary expressing its disappointment over cabinet proposals not being routed correctly to it. Before that it ran into a conflict with the RBI over enhancement of cash withdrawal limit for candidates in the fray for the elections.

The EC communication to the Centre on Wedensday said it has acted on a complaint or received email with particular reference to the website of Pradhan Mantra Aawas Yojana pmaymis@gov.in.

The complaint said the scheme was being implemented in UP and registration for the same was being done through this website, which sported photographs of the PM and the Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
