Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today lampooned a journalist for questioning him on his conviction in the 'Modi surname' case that led to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

The incident happened during a press conference today where Rahul Gandhi was speaking.

The journalist asked Gandhi for his comments on the Bharatiya Janata Party's allegations that he insulted OBCs.


Gandhi then mocked him, asking why he was working so directly for the BJP.

"Try to do it with some discretion," said the Congress leader.

"If you want to work for the BJP, then put the BJP flag symbol on your chest. Then I will answer you the same way I answered them. Don't pretend to be a pressman," Gandhi added.

Rahul Gandhi was on Friday disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha, a day after his conviction in the 2019 "Modi surname" defamation case. The Gandhi scion who represents the Wayanad parliamentary constituency of Kerala was disqualified under the provisions of Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People's Act. Rahul was sentenced to two years in jail on Thursday by a Surat court in the case filed on a complaint by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi.
