Don’t organise government programmes during Raje’s yatra, Rajasthan HC tells BJP

In a jolt to BJP’s poll campaign, the Rajasthan High Court has directed the party not to organise any government programme during chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Gaurav Yatra. Justice GR Moolchandani, in his judgement, has said that no government programme should coincide with the yatra.

The decision comes a day before Raje is scheduled to begin the third phase of her trip, in Bikaner division. She has already travelled across Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions. BJP president Amit Shah had flagged off the yatra on August 4, from the Charbhujanath temple in Rajsamand.

The judgement has come on a PIL filed by Vibuti Bhushan Sharma who has alleged misuse of government machinery and public money in organising the party’s programmes.


The HC also said that various programmes that were being organised in the name of the state government during the yatra be stopped.

On August 10, Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog had issued a notice to the BJP to submit the expense details of the yatra. The party’s report says it spent `1.8 crore on the yatra in Udaipur division.

Attacking the BJP, Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot said: “The HC order has vindicated the Congress stand that the chief minister is misusing public money on a political yatra. BJP government should extend public apology on this.”
