Don't forget good work for one black sheep: Traffic chief Muktesh Chander
NEW DELHI: Under attack after one of its personnel threw a brick on a woman, Delhi Traffic Police today said that one "black sheep" should not undermine the efforts and sacrifices of the entire force.

Special Commissioner (Traffic) Muktesh Chander, who is the head of Delhi Traffic Police, posted on Facebook that more than 44 lakh traffic violators are prosecuted by his force every year in an endeavour to make the city roads safer.

"One unfortunate and tragic incident by one traffic cop has potential to wipe out all good work and sacrifices of police. Every year in Delhi more than 44 lakh traffic violators are prosecuted and the real number of traffic offenders going undetected may be several times higher," Chander wrote on the social networking website.

He mentioned how several policemen including a traffic cop had laid down their lives in the line of duty, and exhorted people not to forget the sacrifices made by them.

"Last year, traffic constable Mana Ram was killed by a car when he was performing his duty. Have we forgotten sacrifice of him and several others in Delhi Police? Police personnel are not machines but human beings just like others with feelings and emotions," he said.

Chander also asked people not to be apprehensive about policemen but to think of those who do their duty with dedication. "When you look at a policeman, don't have the apprehension that he would throw a brick on you. Think of those cops also who have recovered kidnapped children, saved lives, recovered your stolen valuables, arrested dreaded criminals and terrorists etc. For one black sheep do not blame the entire flock. It hurts!!" he added.
