Don't forget Bal Thackeray: Ajit Pawar to Devendra Fadnavis government

MUMBAI: NCP leader Ajit Pawar today said that the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government should not forget the contribution of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

"Please don't forget Balasaheb Thackeray. There is no mention of his (proposed) memorial in the Governor's address," Pawar said, participating in a discussion on the Governor's speech in the Assembly.

On the cow slaughter ban in Maharashtra, Pawar asked the government to tell the farmers what arrangements it will make to take care of old and infirm cattle.

"We don't need Ajit Pawar's recommendation for setting up Balasaheb Thackeray's memorial," Fadnavis said later, replying to the debate.

"Rest assured that there will be a grand memorial for him in Mumbai," Fadnavis said. "It was unfortunate that there was no BJP-Shiv Sena alliance before the polls. But we are aware of his contribution," Fadnavis said.

"You ( opposition) said there is no mention of Shivaji memorial in the Governor's speech. For last 15 years, you were only mentioning it (when in power)," Fadnavis retorted.
