Don't crush aam admi: V K Malhotra
Describing budget as ‘‘anti-people’’, Malhotra said in name of CWG, money was being wasted.

Describing the budget as ‘‘anti-people’’, Malhotra said in the name of Commonwealth Games, money was being wasted. ‘‘They are sepnding crores on flower pots. The whole city is being dug up and tiles which were fixed not too long ago are being pulled out to put new ones in their place, all for the Games. It is such a waste,’’ he fumed.
Malhotra pointed out that while the budget has increased the burden on the common man, around Rs 900 crore was being spent just on renovating Connaught Place and over Rs 1100 crore will be spent to build the Signature Bridge at Wazirabad.
‘‘The government’s decision to roll back the subsidy on LPG will impact the poor as their monthly budgets will be affected to a large extent. An addtional burden of a few hundred rupees is enough to affect the poor,’’ Malhotra said.
On the issue of VAT on various items, including diesel, being increased, Malhotra said it will have a big impact on the lives of people in Delhi. ‘‘By taking all these steps, the government hopes to generate hundreds of crores as revenue. But at what cost! The people of Delhi are being crushed in the name of the Games.’’
‘‘By indulging in wasteful expenditure on various aspects related to the preparations for the Games, whom is the government trying to benefit? This way the contractors of these projects are likely to benefit and not the people of the city,’’ he emphasised. He pointed out that already power and water charges have gone up and now all these measures will make life in the city all the more expensive.
