DMRC's trial run of Shahadra-Dilshad Garden successful

NEW DELHI: Riding on the wheels of achievements, Delhi Metro on Saturday successfully conducted trail run on the first section of Phase-II, about seven months ahead of the schedule.
The trial run on the 3.1 km Shahadra-Dilshad Garden line stretch, which has three stations at Mansarovar Park, Jhilmil and Dilshad Garden, began at 10 a.m. after a small puja at the Shahdara Metro Station.
"Three trial runs were conducted successfully between 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. today on this section," Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
The trial runs will continue for at least 3 to 4 weeks and the section is expected to be opened by the end of May or the beginning of June subject to how the trial runs go on.
Dayal said the section was originally slated to be opened in December 2008 but it would be commissioned almost seven months ahead of schedule.
This section, for which the construction began in August 2006, has been a built at a cost of Rs 89.30 crore and is fully elevated.
While the civil, electrical, track and signalling and telecom work is complete on the section, Dayal said, the finishing work is still on and will be completed by the time the section is opened for the public.
During the trial run, he said, the interaction of civil, electrical, and signalling, telecommunication and operational interface was checked to ensure that there was no physical blockage during the movement of the train on the track.
It is expected that more than 150 trips of the train will be done during the trials.
The phase-II of the project is expected to be completed by 2010. Phase-I was completed two years and nine months ahead of schedule.
