DMK ups its anti-CAA decibel with kolams

CHENNAI: The porches of top DMK leaders featured kolams — rangoli-style designs laid out at the front of homes — carried anti-CAA messages on Monday, a political escalation after city police briefly detained eight people for starting a similar demonstration against the legislation on Sunday.

The residences of DMK chief MK Stalin, party icon the late M Karunanidhi, his daughter and Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi and those of several other leaders featured the floor-graffiti even as the DMK women’s wing began a campaign to spread it across the city and other districts. Tamil Nadu Indian National Congress spokesperson Americai Narayanan had put out on social media of a video of him laying out a kolam in support of the eight people detained on Sunday, urging Stalin and Kanimozhi to join the movement. Late on Sunday, Kanomizhi’s residence had sported the art with a ‘Say No to CAA-NRC’ message, followed up vigorously by other leaders in the DMK alliance fraternity. “Since this government is stopping peaceful protests, the move will send the message across to all religions to stay united in these times,” Narayanan said.
