The DMK party has introduced significant organizational changes following its election setback. New age caps and a two-term limit will now govern party posts
The DMK on Saturday unveiled a sweeping overhaul of its organisational structure, introducing age caps and a two-term limit for party posts while expanding the number of organisational districts from 78 to 110 following its setback in the April 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

The changes were approved through nine resolutions adopted at a meeting of the party's executive committee at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, with party president M K Stalin in the chair.

Under the new organisational blueprint, each of the 110 districts will broadly cover two Assembly constituencies, with the aim of bringing party administration closer to local units.

The party has also abolished the standalone post of "city secretary" in major urban centres, including Coimbatore and Tambaram. Instead, urban areas will be reorganised into zones based on voter strength.

In the Chennai Corporation area, each committee will cover an average of 40,000 voters, while committees in other municipal corporations will have an average of 30,000 voters.

The overhaul also introduces strict age limits for party positions and makes a two-term limit mandatory across all organisational posts. The measures are aimed at professionalising party operations and facilitating generational succession within the organisation.

The restructuring will be implemented after Stalin formally releases the boundary maps for the 110 new organisational districts. The respective district executive committees will then have to meet within 15 days under the supervision of the party headquarters to carry out the transition.

The overhaul comes after the DMK's electoral setback in the April 2026 Assembly election and marks a significant restructuring of the party's organisational machinery.
