DMK has accused Congress of hypocrisy over its participation in the Tamil Nadu government while protesting against SIR nationally
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has hit out at the Congress for protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at the national level while continuing to be part of the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu.

In a post on X, the DMK accused the Congress of double standards. It questioned how the party could demand the dissolution of governments formed through the SIR process while holding cabinet positions in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK remarks were in reference to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's recent remarks alleging that elections were being conducted illegally in the country and that governments formed through the SIR process should be dissolved.

"If that is the case, is the Congress agreeing that the opportunistic beneficiary of this deeply flawed, BJP-designed electoral system in Tamil Nadu (the TVK) should also be dissolved?" the party asked.

The DMK also questioned whether the Congress believed that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's government had come to power through a genuine public mandate or had benefited from the alleged manipulation of electoral rolls.

Pointing to the TVK government, the DMK accused it of using the police to crack down on civil rights activists protesting against SIR in Chennai. The party alleged that the action was intended to please the BJP leadership at the Centre.

It also pointed out that the police action came on the same day Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Chennai and met Chief Minister Vijay over coffee.

The DMK raised questions about Congress demands on protection of the Constitution and protests against alleged electoral irregularities, while it remains silent on the police action in Tamil Nadu. Incidentally, Congress shares power with TVK in Tamil Nadu.

The party also criticised the state Congress leadership for failing to speak out against the detention of activists by the Tamil Nadu Police.
