DMK raises concerns on possible mix-up in postal votes between two Tiruppattur constituencies

Chennai: The DMK on Tuesday said due to the possible mix-up of postal votes between Tiruppattur in Sivaganga district and Tiruppattur district near Vellore, the Madras High Court has restrained a TVK MLA from voting in the assembly floor test.

"If the single disputed vote is counted in the DMK's favour, the tally would become equal, requiring a toss of a coin to decide the election," party spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai told PTI videos.

While TVK's Seenivasa Sethupathi R secured 83,373 votes in the election, DMK's K R Periyakaruppan got 83,374 votes. Sethupathi was declared elected by a margin of just one vote.


Annadurai added that the court has directed the MLA to refrain from voting until the writ petition reaches a conclusion.

Responding to BJP attacks regarding Udhayanidhi Stalin's comments on Sanatana Dharma, Annadurai clarified the DMK's ideological position.


"In Tamil Nadu, Sanatana Dharma is equated with the caste hierarchy it perpetuates," said the spokesperson.

He emphasised that it is the "DNA of the DMK" to fight against caste oppression and the rigid structures within Hinduism.

The spokesperson also reiterated the DMK's demand to abolish the NEET examination following reports of paper leaks.

He criticised the central government's handling of the crisis, describing it as a "Tughlaq Darbar".

Annadurai pointed out that this is the fourth or fifth time CBI inquiries or leak allegations have hit the exam.

He highlighted the "pathetic situation" of students who concentrated on the NEET format at the expense of their Plus Two education.

"With the cancellation, students face a "Hobson's choice" between a re-examination or a return to Plus Two marks, both of which cause immense stress," he added.
