With Parliament's Monsoon session set to begin on Monday, speculation is rife over whether the DMK will alter its stand on the delimitation bill. At a virtual meeting with party MPs, DMK chief MK Stalin said the party would decide only after examining the draft legislation.

However, sources told ET the party is broadly on board with the Centre's proposal. Its two remaining allies - the DMDK and Kamal Haasan-led MNM - are also adopting a wait-and-watch approach.

Following the Assembly elections, the Congress, VCK, IUML, MDMK and the Left parties extended support to the TVK-led government, leaving the DMK with just two allies - Premalatha Vijaykanth-led DMDK and MNM.

"We both have one member each in the Rajya Sabha. As far as DMDK is concerned, we remain part of the DMK-led alliance. However, our decision will not be influenced by the DMK's position. We will do whatever is in the best interest of the state," DMDK treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP LK Sudhish told ET.

Kamal Haasan, who has remained silent on his ties with the DMK, is also likely to take a call only after the draft bill is circulated among MPs.
