DMK flays Jaya call for Maran to quit

The DMK has hit back at Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalitha for demanding resignation of Dayanidhi Maran after allegations about pay-offs to the Sun TV group controlled by his brother Kalanithi Maran.

CHENNAI: The DMK has hit back at Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha for her statement demanding the resignation of union textile minister Dayanidhi Maran after allegations about pay-offs to the Sun TV group controlled by his brother Kalanithi Maran by a Malaysian company.

“Jayalalitha would not quit as chief minister when she had cases pending against her, and she wants Maran to quit when there are allegations against him. The people will understand this”, said DMK officials Pon Muthuramalingam and KS Radhakrishnan in a statement today.

The DMK statement also pointed to the fact that Jayalalithaa has cases pertaining to disproportionate assets pending against her in a Bangalore court. “It is better for one to look at oneself first before talking about others”, Muthuramalingam and Radhakrishnan said.

The DMK statement comes a day prior to the first session of the new Tamil Nadu assembly beginning on Friday.
